Hello, I am taking over a take from my father and its a 15 gal tank. He hasnt been taken care of it for the past 3 months real well so I cleaned it out and changed about 20% of the water. The fish that are in it are: 1 Yellow Tang, 1 Percula Clown, 1 Starfish, 1 Domino Damsel (Not completly sure about that just by looking at the pictures on the website), and 1 Lunare Wrasse. I have tested the tank and it has filtered for about a day and all of the readings are just a bit high (on the meter most of them are off by the next step up from normal). Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do to help, anything good I should get to help the fish, or anything that would help me out. This is my first saltwater tank and I am kinda shooting in the dark. Help me Please!!

My goodness did I read this right a 15 gallon tank with a Tang, Wrasse, Clown, starfish, and a Damsel and they are all still alive amazing. Now to get serious I see you are new and that means you are here for help but this will not do to gloss this over for you. If indeed that tank is a 15 then how any of the fish are still alive is beyond me (so you are not to upset with me so far I to have a 15 among my tanks, but with 2 baby fish in it thats it). My lord the lunare wrasse gets pretty darn big by itself so it must be a baby now. Your readings will never be right even if you did water changes every day. Now if you are into this so far then I would suggest you get yourself a bigger tank (if you can afford to do that) If not you had better get rid of some of those fish and get down to a couple. The Damsel, wrasse and Tang are going to grow to fast and to big so they should go first. I would keep the clown and find another small fish to round out the tank. I could go on and on but lets see what others think.

i will make this a bit brief but i am sure people will tell you the same as i am, that is a lot of fish for that tank, maybe you could keep the clown and domino but then you are running into a aggression issue with the domino, but the lunare gets about 10 inches and that tang will get about 6 inches, and tangs are known for coming down with a red bacteria infection, mine came down wit it, but i cured it, but thats another story. get rid of the lunare and tang and it should be fine

im going to half to agree with the others that is way to many fish in that tank  i dont have that many in my 75 gall. maybe my 180 but to get back to your problem you have one of two choices either get a bigger tank or get rid of the fish tang, wrass, ect. sorry but thats all i can think of. If you decide to get a bigger tank use live rock and live sand to cycle it it will only take about a week to cycle. just my 2 cents.
