HELP needed with berlin classic skimmer

I am in the process of purchasing a used berlin classic skimmer from an auction for $61.00.
link to the skimmer I'm buying
in any case, when I bid on the auction, I did not realize that this is an in-tank skimmer. With a 30 gal, I would like to use what little space I have for water and livestock. Looking at the Red Sea's website it appears that the hang on version is little more than the same skimmer with added plumbing. would I be able to get good results if I were to use PVC pipe and a few elbows to make this into a hang-on, or am I getting over my head? Any input woould be appreciated.

I use the same skimmer in my stand, next to the sump. It doesn't have to be in the tank, you can use flexible tubing to plumb it outside the tank. If you need help, or pics let me know. Jimi told me about a little trick using two sizes of tubing for the return lines to eliminate the slurping sound these skimmers can make(it worked great!).

yeah i have a berlin turbo and it sits outside the sump, well the pump is in the sump, goes through a little pvc, hits the skimmer, goes into the refugium through more pvc, then back to the sump for return to tank.
