help nitrate high

I have c/c and clean the tank out,but the nitrate is still high -40-60 is the junk getting caught in the c/c and should i change to live sand :notsure:

How old is the tank? Do you vacuum the CC? Yes it is possible but depends on the age of the tank and how much you feed. Could be just overfeeding. There are a lot of reasons for trates.
It may not be the CC but JMO I would change it anyway.

Do you have a protien skimmer? They help to get waste out of the water before they have a chance to break down and go through the nitrogen cycle.

There are a lot of things that cause high nitrates but I agree with TurningTim I would make the change anyway. I believe live sand is the only way to go, but that is my opinion.
