Help on a background

I hope someone can help...
The background on my 90g is UGLY. It is a solid blue background of plastic and has started to fold over and is wrinkled. I don’t want to replace it with another cheap plastic background. It’s an established tank and fully stocked so I can’t break it down to do a rock wall.
So whatever I do has to be on the outside. I’m asking for suggestions and directions. Spanko had a cool background he shared but I can’t make heads or tails of how I could do such a thing. It reminded me of a shadow box but I couldn’t understand the directions enough to follow the how to.

Paint it Flower, You can buy Fusion Krylon in a can - use a roller.
I thought it only came in spray paint...interesting and very helpful to know....
I was sent some macro algae and instead of the traditional styrofoam box, they lined the box with some 1/2 inch bluish/green insulation board, I have only seen pink before. A sheet of that with some spray painted cork looking rock would look perfect. I think I will take trip to the local Home depot and just roam to see what I can find.
I love that perfect background Spanko found but the guy wrote his instructions in German I think. The guy loosly translated but not in enough detail for me to feel confident to copy. In the end I would like something that looks like that. I already have a blue light strip.
I still have some pond foam so I can form some bumpy rock formations to paint instead of cork. The insulation board is very light and wouldn't be too hard to get to hold up to the tank. (famous last words..LOL)
