Unfortunately sometimes the best way to learn is the "hard way" Being fairly new to this hobby i became over zealous in adding beautiful new inhabitants to my bourgeoning reef tank. Not long after adding a Hipo Tang i began to notice what i now know is abnormal behavior. The Tang began "flashing"-quickly thrusting its sides against rock, glass, etc.... Eventually the now dredded white spots showed up. By the time i researched the problem and had time to get to the fish store my poor Tang was doomed. I tried freshwater dips, lowering the pH, and using a reef safe treatment called Rx i believe. Unfortunately my poor Tang found a water grave in the sewer system regardless of my efforts. My experience leads me to believe that quickly recognising abnormal behaviors and IMMEDIATELY treating with a freshwater, then medicated dip is the best way to battle ich. My trusty dealer says that if you maintain good water quality and a low stress environment you will drasticly lower your ICH problems. Hope this helps.
