Ok.....I have a 75g w/ 2 yellow tail damsels and a sf eel. My ph was at 8.0 2 days ago now its at 8.6 what gives? I have crushed coral i guess?? anyway it has small sea shells in it i guess this is called crushed coral not sure. I also have some rocks not live that the local aq shop said would be ok. I had 2 clown fish that died i guess cause the ph rose. I hope this makes sense. This is my first post. By the way aqarium has been running for about 3 weeks before i added any fish. Damsels and eel look fine and eating fine. Any help would be appreciated.

What are all of your levels? If it's just been three weeks chances are your tank is not done cycling, which could be what killed your clowns. HTH. Good luck.

Make a massive water change to start.... i would do at least 20 gallons.
Additionally you can purchase pH buffering products, Kent Marine makes a good one. You need to premix it, be sure to read the directions if you go this route.
If in doubt, always change water!

If I understand you correctly, you set up this 75 let it run 3 weeks ... then added (2) damsels, (2) clowns and an eel ?
This tank is new ... and should be cycled as mentioned above.
What are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings ?
I also doubt that a pH of 8.6 is your current problem. I would not do a water change until you test for nitrogen compounds.
This tank is cycling - I'd bet on it.
Post your test results.
I would suggest returning the eel to the store too, until your tank completes it's initial cycle.
