When did this start? What is your tank setup including water conditions, size? How long have you had this fish?
How is the fish behaving otherwise? Swimming, eating, etc.?

I have had my tank for alittle over a month, but when I bought the live sand and water it was already cycled water from my trusted fish store and the sand was in a bag that contained water with the vital elements and bacteria already formed in the sand. My tank is a 30 gallon long tank. I think i might have rushed into haveing my clown. He is eating very well and swimming just as good as he always has. He is the boss of the tank and shows no symptoms of having an illness except for the lump on his head. i have to go buy a test kit but i do know the salt level is 1.021. Thank You for the reply.

Theres more to cycling a tank than aged water and live sand. Post your water readings as soon as you can.

I took my water samples to the fish store and they tested it. They didnt give me exact numbers but they told me nothing looked out of the oridary for a tank that is still cycling. I would appreciate it if you could maybe give me some more detailed advice. I also got some medicine called Melafix. They said it should help since I dont have a med. tank already set up. Thank You for the reply.

so they said it looked like a normal cycle? That could mean that there are elevated levels of ammonia and/or nitrites (that is what happens during a cycle) if your tank is cycling- you should have asked them what the readings were- with toxic levels you can start to see many problems arise.

Do you have a hosptial tank? You can't really treat in your main tank. You could try to treat with antibiotics.

I had the same thing happen, dont know what it is, but as Beth said, hopital tank (or get one up and going) and try antibiotics. I didnt get to the antibiotics fast enough and whatever that was took over fast, and mine didnt make it.

Hey guys,
Well I wanted to give yall a follow-up on my clownfish. Well he died. I just want to let yall know for reference i did some of my own research on his illness and it turns out that it was Flavobacterium formerly known as "Flexibacter". I just wanted to let yall know that it is treatable but you have to catch it at an early stage and isolate it in a hospital tank. With early detection and the right kind of medicine then it should only take 4-7 days to cure. My fish was so far along when i started to treat for it that i think the bacteria actually spread inside his head because when i got off of work the other day he was floating and his actuall eye ball was protruding severly from his head like something had actually pushed it out. Anyways thanks for yalls help on this even though i didnt save him, I learned alot about proper care and management of my tank and realized that it is harder than i thought. Thanks Again
