Help Please !!!!

Just returned tonight from a week long cruise to Mexico. I found one of my zoa frags almost completley covered by what looks to me a type of sponge. No polyps are coming out and I don't want to loose this frag. Please help me.
When I got this frag it had some of this stuff on it, I tried to pull it off with tweezers and it was not easy, so I left it and it looked as if by taking it out of the water it was starting to die back, so I thought great. Now the zoas can really come out. Now I have this. Its basically an off white color but can anyone help me with this??

If it is sponge, just lift it out of the water for a minute and put it back in, the air will kill the sponge.
Anyways, pics are very helpful.
