help removing undergravel filter

i maybe planning on removing my UGF. my tank is in the process of cycling right now. if thats the case am i gonna have to wait for the tank to cycle again, or can i simply install an emperor power filter or some other kind and continue on? also do i simply remove the filter tubes and leave the power heads to keep the circulation of water or is their something else i need to do?

thank you, so if i understand correctly i will not have to worry about cycling all over again right? it will simply pick up where the ugf left off?
