Help! Something's wrong with my nano!

This morning I noticed the pump on my nano was making a strange sound. When I lifted the lid to see what was going on, I saw only about an inch of water in the back! My bio balls are dry, 90% of the heater is dry, etc. Basically, there's not much water back there! What's wrong and how can I fix it? Yikes! Maybe that's why my nitrates are so high! :scared:

Oh, by the way, I have the JBJ Nano Cube if anyone is familiar with its set-up. I just pulled the black square sponge out of the left side of the back and the water immediately began flowing. However, now the back is only half full of water and I have a black sponge on my counter. :help: :help: :help:

There are multiple sponges back there. I think 5 of them, try removing the rest of them and rinsing them out very good. If water still does not flow the intake screens may be clogged.

I only found 2 sponges, but I took them out and rinsed them both. I also added some more water and I've been checking it every 15 minutes or so to make sure there's still water in the back. Does anyone know if this is what caused my nitrates to be so high? Everything else has been 0 but they were running around 40ppm. Thanks!:D
