Hey all, i just recently took down my reef, or sold it all and switched over to an aggressive fowlr tank. with my trigger, grouper, and soon to be puffer i dont think my prizm skimmer is going to do the trick anymore. so has anyone made your own skimmer? does anyone have any plans they could post for me? anyone have any suggestions on what sizes of tubing etc to use..should i put it in my sump? or CAN i have it out side the sump right beside it? what would all be needed for this etc. the skimmer is going to be powered by a rio 2500 pump which is 775 gph i believe. my sump is not very big all 3 spots arent the greatest of sizes so if it has to be in there i can manage but if its not much more work to have it outside of it i will do that.i would like to make a skimmer that is way overkill because soon here i am going to be getting a 210 gallon tank. but i want my 90 as clean as can be. thanks!

Airstone driven skimmer actually work very well and are probably the best option for DIY skimmer. I have ran an airstone in both of my venturi skimmers and the airstones outperformed the venturi easily.
With the Rio 2500 you can get a rejuvinating venturi for it which works but isn't great and you should be able to use the same plans as you would for the airstone skimmers and just skip the airstone and ad an elbow and length of pvc to the inside of the chamber to bring the air/water mixture to the bottom of the chamber.

maybe i will look into it more..i dont have any problems with a venturi skimmer at all, my little prizm just isnt going to do the trick anymore. and i already have the $100 rio just sitting here in the box...been used for like 3 days as a total so i would liketo get more use out of it if i can. thanks for all the tips so far im taking them all into consideration.
