eek, I think you'd save yourself worry and heartache in the long run if you scrapped the tank. Even if you repair it, you'll always be wondering if your repair will hold. And if that seam is bad, whats to say the others arent going to go soon. Sorry, I just dont want you to wake up one morning with a flood and dead everything.

I just posted a thread on this same thing, kind of. Only ours is a slow leak. Thank goodness. We are just going to get a new tank and call it good. Then try to find the leak and reseal it and hold on to this tank as a backup.
Good luck!!

This is an important lesson, once a tank is leaking, that's it, no more, toss it out, why take the chance.......

I wouldn't necessarily say that....my 55 gal FW tank had a small, slow leak. We used fishy safe silicone to reseal it and it is fine...knock on wood. I believe leaks can happen even to new tanks. Depends on how it was constructed.

Sorry to say scrap it and fix it up for something els. Plus upgrade

short story
:
I have had a seam or two blow out right in front of me. That day i got home and about 9 at night i watching tv and checked over at my tank which was fine and then looked over about 30 minutes later and the water level drop 4 inches
. I had no clue what to do since everything was closed. I put my engineering brain to work and figure to use duck tape thats right duct tape all the seams plus the bottom and the top of the stand together. I stoped the leak in about a hour and watched it to make sure it was going to hold. Next morning, I went to work and then went done to the lfs down on my luch hour and the manager told they'll give me a new one for free since i bought it there Side note (which i bought the tank 2 years ago). So i dropped my old one and took the new one home. Thank god for duck tape
and the lfs remembering who i was since i buy most of my stuff.

Yes it does!!!!

Yeah i have two rolls of duck tape just sitting around the apartment if anything goes wrong..hahaha
There was a show on the history channel called modern marvels and they did a show just on duck tape....haha

I posted a while back about having an "emergency" aquarium kit, I think everyone should have a cheap 10-20g tank thats empty, the reason for this is that if there is a problem you simple pump some water as fast as possible into this tank, thent he fish or corals don't have a ph, temp, or shock related water issues. Also, use plastic cling wrap to cover the top of the empty tank during storage, keeps out dust so you don't have to clean it
.
Inside this empty tank you should store some carbon, phosban, duct tape (yeap) silcone, large 1g ziplock bags, extra heater, extra salt, extra pump, powerstrip and atleast 10ft of 1/2 tubing to drain the water into this tank. Also include anything else you think you might need....This setup has saved my butt many times, Murphys law dictates that there will be problems when all the stores are closed.

Very true! Unfortunatly for those of us with leaky tanks, hindsight is 20/20. This poor guy has Niagra Falls. I just have a small leak, so mine is not exactly 911.
I just think he needs to get a new tank fast! Poor guy!

Over my 20 years of experience I've never had a repaired tank that lasted for any period of time, plus I would really hate to spend all that time and money on a tank that might crash at any moment

I have been thinking acrylic just to avoid the hassle of these leaks.
My 55 FW tank seems to be doing well after over 6 months of the repair. But now with our 55 SW tank leaking, we are just going to upgrade. Seems like the best bet.

thank you guys so much for your help but what i ended up doing was i ran and found 2 big wood clamps clamped the ---- out of the tank so it only had a slow drip went and bought a new tank (for only $100 from my local store which is usually real price but i didn think that was too bad of a price) when i got home from work swaped every thing over, i just didnt want to risk fixing it b/c like you guys said i would be waiting for it to bust again
but thank you all again for your help
