Hey! About three days ago I added 17lbs of l/r to my tank. Now my flounder has these stringy white things coming off of him (I gave him a freshwater dip two days ago but now its back!) and my clown has this thick white spot right on the middle of his back! I treated "ich" about two months ago and that is not what it looks like. HELP!!! Any ideas anyone????? Thanks in advance!

Also I was just looking at my flounder again. He has white patches where it looks like he is either losing his scales or they are dying or something!! Really weird.. He is very inactive too and I dont think he has eaten. Can live rock bring something into the tank. There was something spitting something out of one of the crevices about an hour after I added the rock!! Help!! Thanks again!!!

Have you tried a water change? Try around a 10 to 15 gal water change and then do another one in about 3 to 4 days and continue this for about 2 to 3 weeks.I'm going to do the same thing because I'm having a problem with my Coral Beauty Angelfish.GOOD LUCK :) huntingfishinglover@msn.com

ladyheart, I'm experiencing the same problem. Well at least my fishes have the same problem as your fishes. At first it was only one of my clown, and then the other one has this white stringy thing coming out of its anus. And both of them stop eating. So I'm guessing its contagius. Can anyone help us here? Anthem, Beth, Terry?

Hey! Sorry it took so long for me to post again.. I was on the road for a day. The white stringy stuff is coming off all his fins. And when I mentioned before that he has dead scales... thats not what it is. He usually changes colors when he lays on the bottom... almost white to blend with the sand. He's only changing on one spot on his back and the rest of his body is staying dark???? Should I go on and QT all of them and treat them with hypo or copper? Thanks for your help!!

Hey again! My clown's white spot now looks like the fin is rotting away!!!!! But I dont see the strings on him. Anthem... is this any help? Any idea? Do you think it may be the clown disease? Thanks again!

I would remove the infected fish and place them into the Q/H tank, then treat them. I do not have any experience with the string white stuff hanging out of their butts sorry.

I don't know if this will help you much, but my clown had what it sounds like yours has. Not the stringy white things but you said something about a large white ball/spot??? I was at my LFS and saw the same thing on one of their fish. Was told it was a fungus. They said when they get a fish that has or develops to net the fish, use your fingernail and gently rub the spot off. Don't know if this is a good idea or not maybe someone else can comment on this. But, my wife did it with our perc so we didn't have to medicate it and it seems to have worked. Just waiting to see if it comes back or not.
I seem to remember reading something about a type of worm that reproduces attached to fish with white string like things attached to a fish that are actually the eggs. Once they hatch, they swim around and infect other fish.
Hopefully SWF will make another addition to the BB to include pictures of diseases so we can maybe more accurately diagnose. Good luck
