Help with 20 Gallon nano

I'm thinking about a 20 gallon Nano tank. I have a Gramma right now in my 55 but am thinking about putting him in the nano..is that bad does he need more room? I would also put a clown in with him. i'll have plenty of live rock and live sand and use water from my 55 gallon. I want lights strong enough to have clams and any hard coral i want. This will be my Reef tank and i think my 55 will become a FOWLR. Do i need filtration other than live sand and rock on a 20 gallon?
So my plan would be..
Get the tank with sand ,water from 55 ,and some rock to cure with the tank. Unless i just take it from the 55 gallon.
Let the tank cycle
and go from there.
What lights would i need to keep clams in a 20 gallon?
What other fish could i get other than a Gramma and a Clown..or is that enough...
Are clams even ok for a Nano?
Any help would be greatly Appreciated

I've got a 10 gallon with a perc and gramma. They've been together for about 8 months. No probs. However, I don't know how your gramma will react to being taken out of the 55 gallon and put into a 20. He'll probably be O.K. Good luck.

If you're wanting to go with lots of coral in a 20 gallon I would say you should probably stop at those two fish if not take one out. I would recommend a protein skimmer to keep the water chemistry a little more stabile than with just rock and sand.
It shouldn't hurt the Gramma to be transferred but I would probably give him a good amount of time alone in that tank before adding the clown.
As far as I know (Idon't know much) about lighting for clams, they should have MH's but in a 20 gallon it could be less. I'm not much of a clam person cuz I can't afford the lights, lol. There was a guy on here about a year ago, I'm not sure if he's still on here. But he had a large selection of clams and SPS in a 10 gallon and it was thriving like there was no tomorrow.
With a tank that small, and trying to fill it up with corals you have to worry about two things, water quality and space. The more filtration the happier you and your inhabs. will be.
