Help with ammo spike ?

How high does the ammo have to read to be considered a spike----in a new tank

Mine went off the chart when I was cycling. Went to the darkest color on my color card used with my test kit.

mine only went to the 2nd color after 0.every tank is different.If you keep taking readings and watching ,you wount miss the spike

Probably also depends on what you are cycling with. My LFS store sold me damels and 3 of 4 died immediately. I will never do that again after what I know now. Anyway, that's why the 4th damsel is still in my tank. He survived the cycle so he gets to stay!!!

so my ammonia is up to 2.0! My nitrite is .25, ive got 2lbs. of LR and 2lbs of curing LR, plus ive been adding nitromax maine-(overthecountercolonies) How high is a typical Nitire spike? I know everytank is diffrent but no book tells you what to expect as far as spiking, they all just say wait for zero, which is cool, im just curious, also if I tested for nitrate would there be any at this point?

all my readings went off the charts. I cycled with a raw peeled shrimp. I didn't do any water changes. I tested every day and in a week they went down to 0, except for the nitrates(they were at 10 and still are 3 months later ) I had nothing in my tank except the LR and LS. Then I added my cleaning crew. I had a couple of little spikes here and there, but everything lived and my tank is doing good now. (Except I can't get my trates to 0.
