help with apetsia!!!!!!

:help: i am in the process of starting a new reef tank & plan on using the skimmer from my existing tank, my problem/question is. the current tank has an apestia problem & i dont want to introduce them into the new tank by moving the skimmer from the infected tank to the new tank. what should i do to the skimmer to ensure i have no apestia taging along for the ride, should i give it a kalkwasser bath, should i throw it out in the cold (im in ct & it's about 3 degrees out) should i just take it out of the tank for a week or 2?
