Help with birdsnest

In the center of the 55 gallon is a hammer coral that is a beast! That thing has nearly doubled since I got it. One of my favorites. My green birdsnest fell in the center of it the other day and burnt most of it and it turned white. I do not know if it will recover.
Should I remove the dead/dying part? Will it recover?

It can recover if you keep the algae from growing on it. Lightly blow it off with a turkey baster once in a while.

Whewww. I thought it was a gonner. I hope it comes back. I got it as a frag and it has trippled in size. I would hate to loose it.

You may want to frag a small pcl of it for another location, just to have a backup if needed.

So will the white parts stay white or will it polyp again?
I have a backup piece already. These suckers are so fragile. I fragged it on accident. Lol..

The white parts are pretty much dead, and that's where the algae would grow. Frag those pieces off and only save what still has flesh on it.

i think the white parts are very much dead. the living tissue will continue to grow, whether you frag the dead part off or not.

The only way the white bleached out parts will come back is as the birdsnest grows it will slowly creep over the old skeleton again but the white parts are gone.

if its in the right spot and u have a healthy tank..then it should come all back. birdsnest are real fast growers....just prevent algea growth on it as suggested before..

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I don't know of any sps that can stand up to a euphylia.

I have a smaller piece of the original frag. I cut off the white and have only a smidget left of it left. I moved it to my 90 (has better lights)
I also picked up another frag of birdsnest from the LFS for $15. I got a pink one this time. The green was much prettier IMO.

you shouldn't have moved it. it was used to the light it was under. now it may decline because of the shock from the "better" light. cutting off the white didn't help anything but aesthetics.

It was not only for the lights but a safer enviroment. I do not want it to fall into another coral again. It is actually polyping better.

Ugh, this is what I don't like, Mr. X, in his experience, is telling you the best advice he has to offer, and you are dismissing it. This just kills me when people ask for advice and then don't listen.

Snake,
I do
really respect Mr_X and his expertise. I had already moved the coral before I read his response. It was not intentional to disregard anyones advise. Now if I was to move it back would it disrupt the coral even more? The reason people post questions on this board is to get honest and expert opinions. I am greatful to have somewhere to turn to when I need help or any suggestions. But I do not come here to be cut down to size. If you read his response you would see that it was past tense and what was done was already done! I hate to see any living creature needlessly die. I moved it for it's safety and a better chance for survival. I figured it would thrive a little better under better lighting. The tank it was in only had PC lighting although it was placed higher in the tank it was growing and has doubled in size the short time I had it.

No worries. BTW the frag that is left is doing well. I transferred my other 2 hard corals (2 digitas) to my new tank. So my 55 is all softies and LPS.
