help with calcium

I realized my calcium level was almost non existeant yesterday. Before i left for work I added allot of calcium. This am when I got up my tank is really cloudy.
What happened and what can I do,???

If you added too much calcium at once it will precipitate out of solution.
It is always a good idea when adding chemicals to your tank, to add it slowly over time. Remember your inhabitant are used to a very stable enviourment and not used to rapid changes of any kind.
How low was it and are you sure the test kit is accurate?

Never add calcium faster that your supplement recommends. IF you do, you could cause rapid precipitation of calcium in the tank...the least of your worries is cloudy water and white film on the rocks. The worst could cause your pumps to seize, or stop working if buildup is bad enough.
I would get at least a kalk drip up and running (ie kent aquadoser) for maintainence, and then you can add additional supplement daily to bring your levels where they need to be.
