Help with CC to sand

I decided to make the change from cc to sand in an 80 gallon tank. I removed half of the water and then the crushed coral. My tank is covered in a thick milky dust and everything in the tank is covered. What should I do? Will everything die?

I removed half the cc and I plan on doing the other half in a couple of days. The tank is three years old. No fish only clean up crew/ LR.. Nitrates killed the fish one month ago.

I never had CC but from what I've read on here you are only supposed to remove a little at a time.

man i wish u could have said something sooner ...or waited until i seen this thread, haha. i made the switch last year and have all the pics from doing so, what a task, but well worth it in the end. i didnt loose any fish.
1. i drained half the tank
2. took out the rockwork and set them in tubs i bought filled with water
3. drain more water in other tubs prepared for the fish.
4. scooped the fish
5. scooped out coral and replaced with live sand
6. filled with water, half way
7. replaced live rock
8. filled the tank full again
9. turned on pumps, to get debree sucked up, or settled down
10. replaced fish
didnt loose any fish.
its natural for debree to stur up, just let it settle, its ok. did u rinse the crushed coral before u put it in the tank? its probably crushed coral particles. would love to see the switch pics (before and after).
let me know how it turns out
heres mine and how i did it

first, what kind of sand is it, agralive? if so, its fish ready. however, if u use dry sand that needs to cure, itll take u some time. u can leave the live rock in, wont hurt

I have the arganite> It says to rinse it. How long should it be rinsed and what is a good depth? I was thinking an inch

You will want at least enough sand to bring it up to the level of the tank moulding at the bottom, usually 1.5 -2 inches is good cause it will do some shifting anyway. That way you won't have to walk all the way up to the tank just to look at the sand bottom all the time to see what is happening.
Plenty of thread about this change over, if you can't find them I'll help.

I removed ALL my CC at the same time. I did bag up some of it in knee high;'s and set that on the sand for a couple weeks to put the good bacteria into the new sand. This worked well for me and it was cloudy for several days after this procedure.

just have saltwater prepared so if it does spike, u can do a water change to keep the nit/ammo/ph stable
