Well HLLE, as everyone who's been here for any lenght of time, is what borught me to this BB. And, after trying everything mentioned above and then some, my tang still has HLLE.
I think Mr. Salty hit my tang's problem on the head when he suggested that perhaps my fish just didn't like company! Meaning other fish.! The only time that this fish's HLLE reversed [by 50% no less] was when he was placed in [a very small] QT alone. He was OT-ed not for HLLE, but because he was swording my other fish. As soon as he returned to the "community" HLLE was back with a vengence!
Go figure!

Beth, have you heard of or tried the broccoli theory yet? I'm going to try it over the weekend. I'll soak the broc in tankwater and then add some zoe and see if he takes it. He loves seaweed selects. pulls it right out of my hand.

The only theroy I haven't tried is sending my fish into outter space to see if the weightless conditions there would cure HLLE....
I've tried broccoli raw, broccoli cooked, broccoli steamed, broccoli frozen...tried peas and carrots, too. Tried vit A and C. Tried g-probe. Tried Zoe and Zoecon. Tired Seaweed Selects. Tried fresh foods. Meds for parasites, meds for bacteria......The only thing that worked was removing this fish from the community tank, and placing him in a tank by himself. Even under cramped, bare-bones conditions, HLLE improved in the small setup when he was by himself.
[He's booked on the next shuttle mission!]

Do you run carbon in your system? Just curious because my purple tang seemed to develope signs of hlle when I used it then healed after I stopped. I had dramatic results using zoe soaked seaweed selects on my emperor and purple tang. I also feed a wide variety of foods soaked with zoe or selcon. There are many theories on the cause of it but in my experience it is caused from lack of the proper nutrition and or the water being stripped of vital nutrients.

Yes I do run cabon, but have tried removing it also, with no effects. I honestly thing that HLLE is a purely immune system disease process. That being the case, whatever the fish immune system decides is not good, then it will react, be it stray voltage, cabon, or, as in my case, a fish that want to be a "hermit" :D

Sorry Beth,I was asking yvetterich. In your case though if the scarring has gone on too long or is too deep I dont think they will completely recover it just wont get any worse.

OK here is where I am with the battle on HLLE: I was using carbon but have since stopped (HLLE was there before carbon). I tried the broccoli theory, he hit at it but stopped after about 10 min or so (soaked it in tank water and zoecon). He seem to be better, not worse so I would say it has now stabilized. I just did a 20% water change last night. His appetite has never diminished nor has his level of acitvity. He's a great fish, always knows when I;m in the room, will take seaweed from my hand. Thank you for all of your advise. I think I'll ride it out from here if it does not get any worse.
Trey,
Can you find the "lifeline" online anywhere?
If you can, or if anyone else knows where ( LFS doesn't carry squat), please email me :

Thanks again to all! :D

Yes, if there is an online source for that, please let me know too [email in profile]. Might as well try that too.
Ditto for the HLLE hippo...he's my most active fish and the most ravenous! Not to mention he gets an attitude sometimes...he killed my dominate clown a few mos ago with his swords.
