Help with ID

No starting points as it was given to me. Its about 4" long so Im guessing the adult coloration will be much different.

I don't think it's a wrasse. More inclined to say a type of snapper.
Interested to see what AquaKnight says.

Looks like it could be a Mutton Snapper (Lutjanus analis) they have that blue line under the eye like in your picture. That's just a baby, wait till it gets to be full grown 15lbs. It's really hard to tell right now tho because its so small.

Yes... except the anal and dorsal fins are wrong - They are distinctly pointed on Lutjanus analis... It's hard to tell, because there're are different colorations and marking that vary and change as they grow - I think it's most likely Lutjanus apodus. But again, I'm not positive.

Good Point MX#28! Think the red pectoral and anal fins are whats throwing me off, which like you said the coloration will change in time.Your right tho It does look like it could be a schoolmaster. It does appear to have the eight vertical lines which will go away with adult hood and also the blue line. Either way that's going to be a big fish!

Thanks alot. I think you guys are right. I assume he will start to turn Yellow as all of the others I have seen look exactly like it except a yellow.
