Help With Lighting!!!

I have a 40 gal. tank, and im lovin it. Its been established for like 3 mon. and i have like 4 fish and im gettin more. My problem is i want to buy beginner corals and anemones, but my lighting is terrible. I think its like 25 watts or something rediculous like that. What should i do about it. I want to get at least 2 watts per gallon and not spend like over 300 bucks. Is this possible ???

There was a post on here somewhere that talked about people using ordinary pendent lights from like venture or something. Do a search on lights and see what you can find.

You are correct you will need to upgrade your lights, with 2 watts pregallon you will be able to keep some mushrooms and polyps, I am not to sure about any corals, but no anemones. I have the same size tank and I am running power compacts, 2-55w, and 1-96w for a total of a little over 5 watts pregallon, I will be doing a upgrade to my lights and adding a 175w metal halide. If you check online you can find pc at a good price. Good Luck

There are a lot of different options. One I can recommend is JBJ Formosa lighting. Several different sources online and off.
They have a 36" which will fit a 40 breeder that provides 192 watts PC. Both daylight and true actinic. That will give you 4.8wpg as a guideline.
I have the 48" 260 version on my tank and absolutely love it. Complete system, great workmanship. Built in fans.

I found a good VHO system at petsolutions.com that went for $200, it will give 220 watts of light and is small enough to allow you to put some NO strips next to it. Worked for me and now I am getting coralline algae all over the place.

like these guys said there are a lot of options search around to find your answer and come back with more questions. And anemones need a LOT of light and a mature tank. You should wait on that.
