Help with macro mode

Hi all,
We bought a new camera several months ago, I haven't had whole lot of time to read the manual up until now, and now I can't seem to find it. I put it up so I knew where it was and now I can't remember where I put it...:notsure:
Anyway I have a Sony Cyber-shot 5.0 megapixel.When I turn on the micro mode, and shoot a photo, the object I want to photo of is all blurry and everything behind it is clear as crystal.
Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Please! Lisa:help:

assuming you have optical zoom, in macro mode you can only zoom in so far with the optical zoom, if you zoom past that then your camera won't focus on the object. You can also play around with the manual focus. I also set the aperature as high as possible to get the best depth of field, most of the time you have to set your camera to aperature mode.
