Help with marineland filter

I bought a marineland filter and the filter extension tube is to long for my tank did you guys have this problem? If so can u tell me how you fixed it..

Is it in a couple of pcs that you can take apart and cut one to size?
WAIT the emperor 400 has an adjustable intake tube. What model do you have?

Yea their is the extension tube that I was planning on cutting will their be any problems if done?

Should not cause a problem, but it is adjustable on the 400, is yours adjustable?

Yea I got a 400 for my 55.. Yesterday I cut it set up the filter but it makes a lot of noise then quiets down...don't know what the problem is any body else have this issue?
