help with marron alge

hey guys i have a 55gal reef i have a little bit of a problem with some marron alge of some sort.it is growing all over my sand and starting to grow on my live rock.is this something that will go away on its own or do i have to do something i dont use any type of chemes and i would rather not if posible any info would be great thanks

Is it maroon or more of a brown color? How long has the tank been set up?

it is marron not brown an i would say that the tank has been up and running for about 8 months

it grows flat on the sand and then knida like has strings and there is small dots of it on the top of the water

Sounds like Cyano...Not good. Can you get pics.?

now that i have looked at the other threds there is one close to the bottom of page one that is called Cyano it has pictures of a rock that has the exact same thing growing it just like that

I had a problem with the same type of algea and the way I treated it was by using PhosGuard in my canister filter. I treated with it for about 3weeks and everything cleared up

We had to take it out with a turkey baster...and our fingers....about 2 wks ago....but it has not returned...none at all~

Just add more flow to the affected area usually it goes away with more water flow.
