Help with my fish...

Hey everyone, I'm having a little problem with one of my fish. From the second I put in my Sohal Tang, my yellow wrasse went and hid under the sand. Ok, no big deal, he always does that when he gets spooked. But it seems this time he's deathly afraid of the Sohal. He hasn't come out in 5 or 6 days!!!! I've seen him try to come out a few times. Like he came out, saw the Sohal, then went under the sand again. I don't even know why, since the Sohal never went after him.
Anyway... some questions...
How long can the wrasse live without food under the sand?
What would happen if he died under the sand, in a 150gal tank? Anything to worry about? It's like a 4-5" fish.
Is there any way to get him out? I don't think so, especially since I have no idea where he is. I'm not disturbing my entire sand bed for him.

5 inch fish rotting away is never good. With the triggers you have I assume not a good cuc is hanging out. I would find him. Not fair to the fish. It will be a PITA. But take what an hour?

Yeah, a few hermit crabs, not really a big CUC. The cleaner shrimp, I don't think they'd dig in the sand. I don't know what got into him to be so afraid of the Sohal. He's always been a tough fishie, even stands up to the queen angel. But when he saw the Sohal it's like he saw a ghost.

Fish can go a week or more without food. At least my Ebili did when he decided he wanted to not eat anymore. Really made me mad. I hate when fish die. I feel so bad.
I have emptied and moved my 75 then emptied and moved everything into the 150. It took an hour. I think an Hour is worth the guys life. Mail him to me.

My plan was to put him in my 65gal tank. I'll try to dig him out today. I got a pretty good idea where he's hiding, so I'll try to scoop him out along with the sand.

No luck. But really... finding a wrasse hiding under the sand in a 6' tank is almost impossible. He could be anywhere under the sand, under the rocks, no way I can find him. I checked the usual spots where he sleeps and he wasn't there.

Damn, that's a bummer...I like the idea of getting him to another tank.
Is it Halichoeres chrysus? Yellow Coris Wrasse?
Good luck.

It's a yellow coris wrasse, I've had him for 3+ years, since he was really small so I'm sorry to loose him. He would've been perfect for the 65gal, since I want to turn that into a reef tank. Problem is I'm afraid to stir up the entire sand bed. It'd suck to loose all the fish just to catch one.

I have a lot of LR in the tank, but I'm testing the water daily to see if there's any change.

Well, I'm pretty sure he's dead by now, but no sign of the body anywhere. Could be my softball sized hermit crab ate him?

You guys won't believe who surfaced today? I go look at the tank and there's the yellow wrasse swimming around. He's been gone without food for 2 whole weeks now!!! Yet, he looks fine. Maybe a little skinny but otherwise fine. I just fed him a little and he ate like a pig so hopefully he'll go back to being the normal wrasse he's always been.

Wow...Fish are goofy. Maybe he was scavenging at night, glad he is out. Is the Sohal being nice?

The sohal's doing ok, sort of.
He's fine except when I put in the algae clips. I usually put in two of them, one on each end of the tank. But the sohal thinks they're both his and doesn't let any fish get close to them. He makes these incredibly fast dart attacks on any fish that gets close to the clips. He's like a bullet, incredible how fast he can cover 6'. So what I started doing is breaking up the nori sheets in tiny pieces, soaking them a little and putting it in like food. That way all the fish get to eat some. Other than at feeding, he's not overly agressive.

Fish can move so fast. It almost makes you think how the hell do they do that. One second they are just moving along all slow and easy then boom. Gone in a blink of an eye. Its amazing.

Two whole stinkin' weeks my leopard wrasse was gone after a move. Thought for sure it was dead. Then one day.... there it was!

Dang! I missed your post where you said it resurfaced... I guess 2 weeks is the magic number! Congrats!
