I'll start by saying that this forum is awesome! I very seldom post because the search button awnsers most of my questions. On to my question.
I recently tore down my first sw tank. It is a 55 that I have had for years but only set up as a salt for the last 3 years. I want to rebuild it as a fowlr. I plan to do a foam wall and floor (already found the thread) with a spray bar built into the floor (found that thread too).
My questions are about the euipment I'll need. Does a protien skimmer reduce/eliminate the need for a clean up crew? Is there any setup that you would recomend or avoid? There will be no coral so what kind of light would you use? I plan to use a pump style powerhead to power my spraybar and 2 smaller fan style (korillia) sp? powerheads for circulation. Where would you place them? Can I risk drilling a ten year old tank for an overflow? What what you put in the fuge? Bio balls? Cheato? Turf scrubber? Anything else I need?
Eventually the plan is to have 5 or 6 large, colorful fish such as a yellow tang, a copper banded butterly and a few others that are yet to be decided/suggested.
The tank was torn down after a mishap with my heater. 97 degrees isn't good for fish (whodda thunk). So now my blue damsel (first fish. Over 3 years old now) and my pj cardinal are in a 10g with the live rock and shrimp.
Lookin forward to posting some pics for you.
