I personally leave the lunar on all the time. They're only LED's and don't consume much electricity or generate any heat.
I turn my acintics on for an hour in the morning, then turn my white lights on for about 10 hours (leaving the acintics on), then I turn the white lights off and leave just the acintics (and lunars) for another hour. Then turn the acintics off and just leave the lunar on for the night.
Now when I finally get around to getting my timer I will set it all up to be automatic, but on the weekends when I'm home all day, I also have a 65w PC that I like to turn on after the 1 hour of acintics for about an hour or so before I turn on the daylight - and reverse in the evening - gives a nice "sunrise" & "sunset" effect for the fish and corals.
