Just came in today and there are NO instructions about setup or adjustments for the skimmer. Took advise of many of you and hope this is good skimmer. Can figure out how to put it together but unsure of how to adjust the water flow and skimming, how long to break in also. Thanks for any help guys.

make sure the riser tube that goes up and down is all the way down on the output pipe and plug it in. raise the riser tube until the water level is flush with the bottom of the collection cup and thats about it. it with snap, crackle and pop, be inconsistant, make foam for a hour and suddenly stop ect ect but just leave it be (unless of course its overflowing the collection cup in which case lower the riser). expect to wait at least 4 or 5 days before you get any kind of consistancy but it will probably be a few weeks before it really gets going like it should. hell I've heard of cases where octopus NW line in particular have taken the better part of a month to get going properly.

I just purchased the same skimmer but on another post I read that I should have the riser tube almost all the way down and have the water line about halfway up the inverted cone.
Need some help here = D.

I have the NW-150 and I set the water level about 1/2 up the cone. I think it depends on the style. Octopus has made several different styles.

I have had the water level about halfway up the cone and now after around 4 days i have foam thats a little over the top of the cone. Nowhere near the collection cup but I guess its a start. The only thing in the water right now is 50lbs of SWF.com fiji live rock which I received 4 days ago. I ran the skimmer for 2 days with just saltwater before adding the LR.
My only guess is that there isnt much stuff in the water yet so thats why im not getting any large amount of foam.
PH 8.4
Alk 12
Nitrite 2ppm
Nitrate 80ppm
Ammonium 0.01
Just did a 15-20% water change after getting those readings.
Anyhelp with the skimmer would be appreciated from anyone who has a NW octopus.

anyone have any thoughts of where the level should be on this model? Draw a line on the picture if you have any insight.

Right now the water in the middle chamber is at the top of the inverted black funnel.
Is that correct?
OR should the water level of the bottom section (the big one) be up at the top of the black funnel. If I raise it that high I get tons of skimmate that is yellow in color. About a cup worth overnight...
