Help with starfish!!!!

I was recently given a sand-shifting star as a gift from a friend who decided he couldn't take care of his tank any longer. My 75 gallon with LS is only 3 weeks old and I HAVE ZERO CLUE HOW TO CARE FOR THIS FISH!!! Help! I'm not sure if he can pull enough food from the sand and he's not eating the bits of scallops that I bury next to him.

what else do you have in the tank as in fish? If there are no fish in the tank then I would just pet a little bit of fish food flake or pellets in the tank and he will get them. Probably after they desolve. The clean the sand of detetritious and excess fish food.

I have nothing in the tank for right now other than 4 turbo snails (left over from last group) 3 damsels (can't bring myself to put in more fish after last total fish kill - months ago).....
