HELP!

Last night I took out the filer pads to run under water aand clean out. When I put it back in all this debre.. or what looks like salt came spititng out... The salinty went up real high.. off the charts. So i quickly took some water out and added in distilled water. Then got a normal reading again.. What happened?? And my poor clown fish was swimming in there like crazy... i thought for sure i would wake up this morning and everything would be gone.
I don't knwo if this would affect it.. but i had phospate balls at the bottom of the box where filter pad goes. When i put pad back in i may have crushed soem of those balls?? Can that be the debre i see still coming out??
If anyone can help I would GREATLY appreciate it

Hi Becky,
Wow that's bad. Sorry I can't help, but I was thinking about cleaning out my filter this weekend, this includes cleaning the filter pads. I'm gonna be real careful in doing so. I hope your clownfish is ok.

If i were you I would do it... The tank was doing great without taking that out and cleaning it!
I hope all is still well when i get home!
