ok,my live rock has lost all its coraline alge and now is replaced with brown and green alge, what happened? how can i promote the growth of the good alge????
my tank is about 2 years old and is mature. the glass on the back of the tank is full of coraline alge, but my rock has lost it, and i am dosing it with calium and stuff.. i heard about coral-vite is that good??
Thats strange that a two year old tank is having this problem. Maybe a jump in phosfates or something? Have you changed lighting or anything? And yes,coral-vite is worth trying.
Salty is right something in your water chemistry changed. Nitrates, phosphates, detrius laying on the rock, low calcium levels, change in light spectrum, overfeeding, the list of causes for algae outbreaks can be endless.
Salt One, that is funny two of my rocks did the same thing. It is almost like a plastic looking green brown alagae. Bu tthe weirdest things happened with it. It completely covered a light purple corraline algae rock. But a week or two later it was flaking off. And under it the corraline algae was still there but it was more purple and form a visual standpoint looked healthier. I am not sure why it broke up and fell off, but maybe my hermits cut it up to eat it?? Real weird but my levels in the tank stayed decent the whole way across the board.
Go figure.
oh 30 gallon 1 year old.
