We need some general information from you in order to help. What size tank, how long has it been set up, what kind of lighting and filtration, how often do you do water changes, what additives if any are you using, what kind of water do you use (ro/di?) What tests have you run and what are the measurements on them, what kind of fish, how many of each, how long have you had them, what are your salinity, ph, nitrites, nitrates, calcium, hardness, ammonia, etc. Then we can begin to help you with your problem...

I am new at this. I have a 30 gallon tank. I used faucet water. have wisper filter. Have bio filter. tests ran are ph, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate. ph is at 8.4. ammonia is .5 nitrite is 0. nitrate is at 20. I have a royal gramma and a pajama fish but the pajama is about dead. there is white dot looking things all through the water. I also have a living rock in it and crushed corral in bottom of tank. tank has been set up for about a month. Please help me. Is this enough info? I dont know what else to add except that the rock has turned orange in some spots

okay lets start simple and work up. First off, what do the little white dots look like, how big, consistancy etc. second, lets talk about your water and getting a water change done. I would do about a 10%-15% or aprox 3-5 gallons. that should help with the chemical unstability of the tank. Does your cardinal have any spots or anything on him physically that would show a disease or other problem? You need to check your calcium levels, i am not sure about in your case, but i know if your levels are off a precipitate can form in the tank which may be the white stuff. What temp are you keeping your tank at? what specific gravity (salinity) do you have it at.
Most importantly from now on please use ro/di water to do water changes, if you continue to use tap water you will be fighting algae outbreaks and other chemical problems for a while (until you use ro/di) just my 2 cents i guess.
As far as a quick fix, i am not sure that you will find one for the cardinal. your tank is very young, and may not be finished cycling as of yet, which would explain the elevated levels of toxins. I would stress to you to not add any more fish for a period of 3 or 4 weeks, you could add a few snails and hermits, but do not over do it. your bioload in your tank is still trying to balance itself.
just my 2 cents let me know if it helps
