Hermit crab shell question

Do hermit crabs' shells grow with them, or do the change shells as they grow?

They change shells as they grow, which is why it is a good idea to have some empty shells in your tank so they won't kill your snails for their shells!

Would they try and kill another hermit crab for it's shell, or just the snails?

they will kill snails and other hermits, as the other poster said its key to keep empty shells for them to upgrade

how do i know what size shell to leave for the crabs.. what if the shell i have is too big/small? what will happen?
