Hermit crabs vs. Snails

Why is it everytime I add snails (nasil) snails to my tank these crabs chase / eat my them. I have asked others and they say they never have this problem.....
Is this normal?

If you don't have extra empty shells in the tank hermits will go after snails for their shells as they grow.

I do have extra shells in the tank, this is my 2nd time trying this, I think that was my problem last time I never had extra shells, but I do now.

Perfectly normal. Snail=doritos for hermits. Don't combine them, and go with snails for a superior clean up crew IMO.

+1 on the snails only. I have a mixture of several kinds and they do a great job.

Agreed. My hermits kept killing snails when they had plenty of spare shells and plenty of food too. I took them out and gave them away.
