hermit feast?

I have a few hermits and a sponge. I always see my hermits gathered around my sponge. It looks like they are eating it. Is my sponge feeding the crabs? ***)

Could be, but may just be the crabs are eating the food that the sponge is traping on it as it syphons water thru itself....

I'm pretty sure my hermits are eating my yellow tree sponge.
