Hermit Shells

I have a good amount of Hermit crabs that need new homes. Do I buy empty shells from a LFS or can I buy some fancy shells from a craft store as long as ther not treated or bleached?

Your LFS should give you a handful or at least just charge you a couple of bucks for them. Mine didnt mind giving me some.

Am I able to just put a bunch of hermit shells in there for a while or will this affect my water conditions?

to be safe, it's best to boil the shells in RO water for 10 min to kill anything that may be living in the shell. That's what I do for my expired snails.
I love seeing my hermits run around in bumble bee and nassarius shells.

Dollar Tree has a bundle of 100 shells in a bag for one dollar. they are raw, no paint or shlack on them.
