Hermit - Snail War

So my hawiian zebra hermit crab aka tuxedo hermit crab has camped out on top of the opening of my turbo snails shell. Obviously the snail isn't coming out and the hermit crab wont move. I've harrassed him with the magnet cleaner, i've moved them to the other side of the tank and he always finds the snail. I have this strange feeling he really wants the shell but i have lots of other shells in the tank for him to take. I have a bad feeling the snail will end up dead sometime soon with the hermit the winner. Hell maybe they are in love....
Anyone have any suggestions or ever had this happen to them?

I have had this happen many times...hermits vs snail...
Seems they always want the occupied shell but I am not too sure why. Good luck, I have about 10 empty shells on the bottom of my tank and someone is always moving into one from another.
