Hermits eating Zoas and Rics?

I've had some Zoas that I got from this site (Green dragon eyes I think) and a green ric that I got at the same time. I've had them both probably over a year and the zoas have never done well but I couldn't figure out why no matter how much I checked. Also I've had little rics but they never developed.
I also have gotten frags of other zoas only to go to sleep when they are doing great and waking up and they're all gone. I've looked for all the usual suspects but can't find any.
Yesterday I noticed a jade hermit picking at the zoas. Is it possible that he's eating them and baby rics or is it definitely that he's just eating dead polyps?

It might be eating algae growing on them. That also might be the reason your corals are'nt doing well.

+1 algae will choke coral.
However it sounds like you may have a nasty hitchhiker...do you have moonlights so you can watch at night to see if an eater is in there?
Hermits eat the brown algae and dead coral tissue, they are reef safe.

Yeah I was pretty sure they were safe, but I saw them picking at the zoas. But it was picking at ones that haven't been open in a while. Easiest way to clean them if it is algae? Just a soft brush or cloth I'm guessing.
No I don't have moonlights, I'll have to get a red light or something so I can check things out at night without scaring them all away.

+1 it is the only way to catch an eater, they only come out at night. Hope you catch it.
