My guess is that he grew to large for the shell he was in and was forced 2 eject. Finding a shell to fit small bluelegs is a problem ive also has as most scarlet shells are to large for them.

usually it only takes mine about 24 hours to get back in a shell! so is he in a shell yet or is he gone?

i got mine a couple different places. the first ones i got i went down to the shore and picked up about 10 empty periwinkle shells. i've gotten some shells from 2 local stores and i've put all dead snail shells back into the tank. (my hermits don't like the astrea snails, maybe they are too heavy?)
some craft stores sell hermit shells also, but they seem to be bigger than what my hermits can use (hopefully they never get that big). or, you can buy them here, but for some stupid reason they are considered live goods instead of dry goods and have to be shipped with a $70 order.
