Glad to finally find an active webboard.
About 4 months ago, i grabbed my 30 gallon (which i had in college as a freshwater) out of the attic and wiped away all the spider webs and set it up as a Saltwater.
Man! I can't believe how I forgot how cool this is....of course I've never had a saltwater though.
30 gallon specs: 30 lbs Fiji live rock, 10 lbs live sand, Yellow tang, purple pseudochromis, damsel electric blue, damsel yellowtail, mandrin, 15 blue hermits, 12 astrea snails, sand sifting starfish, brittle starfish, and 2 rock anemones. Hagen 201 Powerhead w/ quick filter and Bio-Wheel filter.
My wife, son (7 year old), and I have really enjoyed watching this aquarium. So, much in fact....that the only thing I asked for Christmas was a 100 gallon tank. Got it last week! woo WOO
100 Gallon (60x18x20)
Canopy w/ 2 Metal Helyde 10,000 175W plus ? flo power-glo/actinic? (still deciding on what to add).
Right now it has around 40 lbs Fiji LR, 3 damsel yellowtails and ? light brown damsel
(forgot to ask what kind it was =) and 4 blue hermits (ordered more and going to add 20 more).
2 Hagen 402 w/ quick filters.
I believe this will be it til the tank cycles.
In the future, I plan on adding more LR to give a total of 80 lbs LR and also adding 20-40 lbs LS. Maybe a protein skimmer. Probably a clam and some minor Reef stuff (hence the strong lights).
I am new at this...so, feel free to make comments on anything here. I'm sure I'll make mistakes.....in fact...you'll probably get a chuckle outta this one. But, ever since I started the 30g salt tank...I've had the air bubble hose connected to my powerhead causing all KINDS of bubbles everywhere! Until recently, my LPS said "Get rid of it!" when I mentioned it. hehe.
I do already have a "What is this Rock Anemone?" question coming at ya, as soon as i upload the pictures to my homepage.
Look forward to being a part of this saltwater discussion,

Hello!
I'm still very new here myself (I don't even have an aquarium yet LOL), but I wanted to say hi and welcome! I've been coming to these boards for about 2 weeks now and love learning about this interesting hobby. The people here are so nice and helpful!
Looking forward to hearing about your fishy experiences and can't wait to see pics of your new tank!!

Hey L&L, welcome back to the hobby. Have been in it 30yrs, but this year I went salt as well. Its awesome. Dont be afraid to buy a few books. They have great info and are a super reference in the future.
My fresh tanks are 10,20,55 and the salt is a 90. Have 100 lbs lr, 40 lbs ls, 40lbs crushed coral.
