Hey quick question on LR

If i were to buy LR from some guy on CL.. Had live rock for a while... used to run business, runs business for maintaining tanks.. and this is the rock he uses for his tanks that he does... do i have to worry about keeping it in buckets or should i just put it in the tank...

If you put it into a bucket of the source water or even premixed that you take with you it will minimize the dieoff. Rock is shipped in wet newspaper and that maintains some life but most of it dies off in the process. If it needs a curing process then maybe you will want to put it into a QT so you don't get a spike of any kind.

Any time you get new live rock that is not transfered over in a bucket filled with saltwater, you should consider quarantining it to make sure there is no ammonia/nitrite spikes and so that you can observe any nasty creatures that it may contain such as mantis shrimp.
Once you know that it is fully cycled and that there are no pesky creatures - then you can move it to the main system.
At least, that's how you should do it if you want to be careful.
If it was me - if it was fully cycled, I'de just throw it in my tank and cross my fingers. It would also depend on how much live rock it is compaired to the volume of my tank.
Anyway - home that helps.

Ya im bring buckets filled 3/4 of the way with SW... and I think ima just cross my fingers .. its 40 pounds in a 40 gallon tank.. but i think i might put 10 pounds in another 10 gallon im buying for S&G for 10 bucks... Dunno yet..
