I'm also a "newbie to this......my wife bought me a 55 2 weeks ago and I am already in love with it! We have a store nearby that is small but incredibly helpful!! I started my tank with live sand and it cycled in about a week and a half. I have 5 damsels in the tank now and can't wait to start adding more exotic varities. Good luck!!

Welcome All! and I hope your insights can help me with my tank. I have been into this for over a year and I really learn everytime I look at this site.
I would recommend you lose the damsels ASAP and go with less aggressive tankmates. You'll thank me when you see a nice fish at the LPS you want - damsels harass timid fish - they ate my Royal Gramma in less than a day.
