Hi everyone! I've been wanting a salwater tank for a while now. I don't have any sort of experience with saltwater, and just some not much with a small 10g freshwater tank. But of course freshwater is low maintenance compared to saltwater by what i've been reading. And i've only been researching for a couple weeks now, and narrowing that down it's been on this site for the most part. My question is what is some good material to research. "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by Robert M. Fenner was one that i managed to pick up from the boards. What else should I look into. Also, what am I looking at say, for about $400, for the first month, and about how much in maintence/or whatever thereafter. Thanks to anyone who responds. And hopefully I do get to have my own saltwater fish. The important thing is the I am very willing to put the time and effort, and yes I believe I have a little bit of patience, because I like to do things right the first time and as close to perfect as my patience takes me. Once again thanks!

If you pick up that book and read allot of this bb you will be in pretty good shape. I also have "The Book of the Marine Aquarium" by Nick Dakin. It is a coffee table book but its been informative.
For $400 to start I would look into used tanks. There are some great deals out there. I would not go under 55g no matter what type of tank you want. I have a 46g that i'm happy with but am dreaming bigger, much bigger.
Have fun.

Bestest, welcome to the board.
You are doing the right thing by taking your time and doing some reading first. You will save yourself alot of heartache and money that way.
For $400 dollors I would look into a used setup as mentioned above. I've seen many 55's and some even bigger, complete with stand, hood, and all equipment used for around that price.
Good Luck to you.

I agree with Marine QA and Twoods 71 read as many books as you can get your hands on and read the bb, The bigger the tank the easier to keep. Oh ya welcome to the board. Remember take it slow. Good Luck
