here's a link to my aquarium using the lights if you want to see, i'm not a seller or anything, just a hobbiest who designs lights for a living and thought i could bring this into the hobby and make some money so i can buy fish or i would be happy to trade for fish or equipment.

how do these compare to VHO lighting when the wattage is much lower?

Is the $65 with 2 bulbs and total 28 watts??
That does not seem to be a lot of light for a 180 tank
with 2-36" double bulbs 56 watts total ????
And there are 50/50 t5 out there know !!!

when you refer to high efficiency you don't talk about wattage. if you had a 180 gallon, w 4 t5 lamps, that is alot of light! go to yahoo and do a search on t5 aquarium lights. when you measure light you measure it with candlepower or lumens. each of my lamps emits 865. that is the brightest t5 out there! i would throw the wattage theory out the door. but when you talk bulbs, then you can use wattage as a reference. all you have to do is look up the photometric results of flourescents, t5, t8 and metal halide and compare results. look at the lamp and read what it says. then judge for yourself if you have enough. here is the price list
one lamps
24 is 50.00
36 is 65.00
48 is 80.00
two lamps
24 is 70
36 is 85
48 is 105
hope that clears things up=) there are a few t5 fixtures out there, but you have to make sure that the ballast in the fixture you are ordering will support the brightest t5 lamps out there. MINE ARE. email me with any questions bay_tran@yahoo.com,
p.s. 865 lumens is pretty close to looking at the sun. so that's the effect you will have in your aquarium.

So can that light take a blue bulb t5
or there is not a blue bulb that is t5?
and where do i get a 50/50 or a blue t5 bulb?
or does the light you are selling make the water look white
blue or yellow i only ask because t5 is on my light list
for my 180 tank

for the 48 inch fixture are they 2 48 in bulbs? and can the ballast handle higher wattage T5 bulbs or just 18 watt bulbs, and are the ballasts electronic

hi dan, yes, the ballast is electronic, and it can handle more then just 18w lamp. and yes, there are 2 lamps in the fixture. along with a reflector so when you look at the fixture straight on you will see 4 lamps (2actual and 2 reflected). hope that helps.
also i forgot to mention, shop around for aquarium lights and see if you can find one that is powder coated for less 100.00, most likely you will find plastic ones with cheap ballast.
