high nitrate levels

how do I bring my nitrate levels down? they have been high for a few weeks now(10),
all my other parameters are fine....thanks

I do monthly water changes and pretty much stay on top of things, my fish are doing great but my yellow tang looks like it has lymphocytis....its been there for about two weeks now, he feeds and acts normal so I'm just waiting it out....if 10ppm isnt that bad for nitrates, I'll be a bit relieved....thanks

I just got a used 75 and the nitrates were 100. After a month of bi daily changes of 5%, I've got it down to 40... so don't worry about it. Keep doing changes, and as long as you're using RO water, or your tap water doesn't have nitrates in it (The city I work in has 40), you'll eventually bring it down.

The nitrate are not high enough to harm the fish... most corals would even be ok. Of course 0ppm is best but 10 isn't bad. The most it will do is possibly cause some algae to grow.

What, other than water changes, can be done to bring down the nitrates? Mine were at 200ppm last week (causing the loss of an angel). Tank is only a little over two weeks old but the live rock came from a well established tank.

this isn't exactly staying on top of things, imo. if you would do one every two weeks your water quality would probably be twice as good.

the only thing that will help a tank with that high of nitrates will be large frequent water changes.

Are you serious?? 10ppm is NOT high nitrates. IMO larger monthly water changes (20%+-) will pull out more excess nutrients than smaller weekly (5%+-) or bi-weekly (10%+-) will... it's just easier to do them weekly or bi-weekly IME.

i was commenting on 02f350psd's post. he/she said that his/her nitrates were 200ppm. that's why i quoted that person.

have you tried coil denitrator. its easy to make and works really well
