high output T-5 lamps?

I am considering swapping out compact fluorescent lights for high output T-5 lamps. I am under the impression that 39 watts high output T-5 lamps were equivalent to 78 watt compact fluorescent, and run much cooler? I have heard they are equivalent with metal halide without the heat.
Does anyone have experience with high output T-5 lamps?

I am building a new system and have been reading and looking a alot at all the information. The T5HO will be better than the PC with individual refectors. The bulbs do not run cooler than pc's . However being that you will need less wattage of bulbs with T5ho than pc there will be less heat. As far as MH bulbs. Depends on depth of tank. From what I have gathered If you use t5Ho with individual reflectors they will be about the same as MH's. But if you tank is 24 in deep or more the t5 bulbs will not have the par value that deep that the MH bulbs will have. I hope that helps. Its what I have read in a nutshell. make sure you get good reflectors too. Either TEK 2 or Icecap SLR are what I would recomend.

I don't know what the equaivalence would be but I have 4 x 65w p.c. left over from my 55g and I put those along with 3 x 80watt t-5's on my 110g and WOW the 240w t-5 blew the p.c.'s away!!!!
