high phosphates

My red algae is going down since the use of phosguard.
According to my LFS my nitrites and amonia are fine. I just have high phospahtes. Could high phosphates cause red algae? When they tested the phosphates the water was blueish purple, but no nitrites/nitrates.
They said I should buy some cleaning crews. Such as snails, shrimp and crabs. Is this wise due to my phosphates?

Need to get the cleaning crew. Phosphates won't poisen them in any way that I know of. To reduce phosphates use reverse osmosis water. Phosphates cause algea. If your red algea is slimy then it is not actually algea but cyanobacteria. Good luck getting your phosphates down!
