high water temp

My tank is not near a window and has been having a temp of about 83-85 F. I have cut the heater and it still remains in this temp range. What can I do to get it down without having to buy a chiller? The temp at night without any over head lights has been about 85 F. I'll take all suggestions.

If you have a glass cover or hood, open it. This will help with evaporational cooling. Also try blowing a fan down across the water. The little plastic personal fans that are sold will accomplish this. Properly positioned, it can bring the temperature down 4 to 5 degrees.
Don't fret too much. Most of the newer articles set natural reef temperatures in the 82 - 84 degree range.

lift the canopy and allow a fan to blow over the surface of the water. this wil bring temps down easily and is fairly inexpensive. What does the temp get to when you have the lights on? i personally try to keep my tank at 82-84 because i have found that my corals, expand more and seem to grow faster at a higher temp, but htisis just my personal exp. Many other hobbyists on this board do keep their tanks in the same range, but there are also those who keep theirs in the 78-80 range. try it at 82-84 and see what happens. if there is no neg. impact than why change it?
anyway, the fan thing has always worked for me
good luck
