my tank has been set up for about 10 months now.29g about 3 inches of a 75% natures ocean live sand and 15% caribe sea reef aragonite,45 pounds of live rock,1 175w mh 12klumens,2 powerheads, emperor 400.i never had any problems until recently that my nitrates sky rocked, two of my fish died already and i dont want any more to die so, this is what i done so far after going trough the previous posts.
did a 10g water change two weeks ago and that didn't do much, then 3 days ago i went to lfs and a got prizm protein skimer,i took the biowheel and the carbon catrige out of the emperor,so now it only moves water.
its been 3 days now and the nitrates still at 100 yeah 100.
like i said my prizm has only been running
for 3 days so it probably hasnt kick in
since i still getting sea water.
should i do another water change or just wait for a week and hope they go down and no more fish die.
right now i have blue devil damsel,coral banded shrimp,cleaner shrimp,emeral crab,some snais,3 hermits,long tentacle anenome,sabae anenome.
any help would be apreciated
thanks.

I cold paraphrase another post but I recommend you look on this same site for the topic: NitrAtes question - If you have a biowheel and crushed coral instead of live sand you may be able to easily solve your problem.
I suggest you read the entire post - I'm getting ready to remove my CC in a week.

I have the same problem with Nitrate on/off. It helps when I reduce the feeding (still daily but less amount). Changing 10% water weekely also helps. In emergency, I used Prime which reduce Nitrite/Nitrate in few hours but this is only temporary solution

Test your tap water. I bough a RO/DI unit in my nitrate problem went away. Also don't overstock.
